Macon Electric Foundation Awards Grant to The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri
The Macon Electric Foundation awarded The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri with a grant for $200 to assist in serving families and individuals in Macon county who are in need of food assistance through their Food Acquisition and Distribution Program. The Foundation’s community grants are funded through Operation Round Up, where Macon Electric Cooperative (MEC) members and PWSD of Macon County customers can elect to have their bills each month rounded up to the next dollar. The proceeds are used to benefit area non-profits through a system of quarterly grants, awarded by the Foundation’s volunteer board of directors.
“The Macon Electric Foundation’s mission is to follow the cooperative principle of concern for community; to make a difference in the communities that we serve,” stated Mike Nelson, Macon Electric Foundation President. “By partnering with The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri, the Foundation supports the organization in serving families and individuals in need of food assistance at both the La Plata Christian Ministries and the Macon County Ministries food pantries.”
MEC members and PWSD customers can help give back to their communities by signing up for Operation Round Up. Members can register online at www./operation-round-up, or contact the office at (660) 385-3157.
“This grant opportunity would not be possible without the generosity of the MEC members and PWSD customers who have signed up to participate in Operation Round Up,” stated Nelson. “If you would like to be a part of this group and help give back to our communities, please contact MEC to sign up today.”
